Understanding and Defeating COVID-19: Diagnostic Tactics and Access to Medical Care

The roundtable ‘Understanding and Defeating COVID-19: Diagnostic Tactics and Access to Medical Care’ will be broadcast live on 29 April 2020 at 18:30 Moscow Time. News Channel Russia 24 will serve as event’s information partner.

Other countries’ experience in facing this epidemic has shown that mass testing and the most complete identification of all infected persons and their temporary isolation is the only viable strategy for limiting the spread of the coronavirus epidemic. China – who has successfully slowed the spread of their epidemic – has demonstrated the effectiveness of using computer tomography (CT) in addition to the traditional polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method to identify the largest number of ‘confirmed infected’ individuals, efficiently manage infection sources, and effectively cut off transmission vectors.
Russia has the potential to comprehensively test its citizens. According to the scientific and expert community, Russian PCR-based virus test systems are on par with proven imported analogues and even surpass them in certain respects. The government of the Russian Federation is faced with the serious task of mobilizing resources, not just within the healthcare system, but across all industrial capacities, integrating cutting-edge digital solutions to rapidly and accurately diagnose COVID-19 patients. No less important is the objective of supplying the country's medical organizations to ensure that there are no medicine or equipment deficits.
