Healthcare Topics will be Discussed at EEF

31 August 2022

The Roscongress Foundation’s Healthy Life project will organize a series of sessions on key health issues as part of the business programme of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF).

The session ‘Open Dialogue in Medicine: Personnel, Technologies, and Opportunities in the New World’ will be held with the support of the Russian Research Institute of Health of the Russian Ministry of Health. Experts will discuss what opportunities are available today for cooperation in healthcare, the exchange of medical technologies and personnel, the medical technology trends in the Asia-Pacific region which the macro-region should rely on today, as well as also how existing global health institutions are meeting the demand for international integration in the healthcare sector.

“Today, Russia is one of the world’s leaders in healthcare and makes a significant contribution to international integration to ensure the global development of the industry and to counteract modern threats and challenges. We are interested in building and strengthening a dialogue, developing cooperation, and exchanging experience and technologies to improve people’s quality of life and life expectancy,” Russian Research Institute of Health Director Olga Kobyakova said.

The expert discussion ‘Ensuring Drug Security: Strategic Course of Social Policy in the Far East. Challenges and Opportunities’ will be held with the support of the Subcommittee on the Circulation of Medicines and the Development of the Pharmaceutical and Medical Industry of the Russian State Duma’s Committee on Health Protection. The session participants will consider what strategic decisions both at the state and the macro-region level can ensure the broad availability of medicines, what prospects exist for opening new pharmaceutical enterprises and localizing production in the macro-region, which industries can engage in cooperation to develop new technologies, as well as how to create conditions in the new realities for economic development and to enhance the industry’s investment appeal. The meeting will be moderated by Alexander Petrov, Subcommittee on the Circulation of Medicines and the Development of the Pharmaceutical and Medical Industry of the Russian State Duma’s Committee on Health Protection.

According to the WHO, the average life expectancy around the world was only 48 years in 1955. This figure was up to 65 in 1995. By 2030, Russia aims to reach an average life expectancy of 78 years. Today, the concept of age has become a phantom. On the one hand, you have 20-year-old CEOs of major companies and the phenomenon of 15-year-old influencers, while, on the other hand, there are people learning new professions at age 60. Medicine, orthotics, cosmetology, and plastic surgery are rapidly developing. The popularity of healthy lifestyles is gaining momentum. Key events that determine one’s social age are now distributed throughout life in a completely different manner than they were 20 years ago. However, we still have age stereotypes entrenched in our minds that are difficult to get rid of. Participants in the session ‘Age and Image as Part of Social Attitude Towards Culture and Traditions’ will discuss how age criteria has changed, as well as the key causes and consequences of these changes.
