Personally and on behalf of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Russian Federation I would like to extend a warm welcome to the participants and organizers of the Healthy Life Forum. Towards 80+.
Russia today finds itself in an important phase of its economic, political, and social development, and citizens from the older generation should, of course, also be participants in this process.
The emerging demographic situation is presenting the Government and society with new challenges and objectives, focused not only on ensuring that the key needs of senior citizens are met in order to support their quality of life, but also on putting in place conditions that will allow them to play an active role in political, social, and other areas of society.
In view of current trends, a modern outlook on the duties of the state towards the elderly should be based on universal human values and on the ideal of human rights for all ages, and should serve as the basis for policy decisions and concrete measures to support older people at both intergovernmental and national levels.
The Forum agenda encompasses a broad range of issues surrounding the debate on quality of life for senior citizens, medical services, healthy living, and increasing the birth rate.
All of these issues, which are complex in nature and demand a joint response from Russian regional authorities, federal ministries and agencies, the scientific community, and the public, are addressed in the national Demographics project, and in federal projects falling within its scope that are designed to support families during the birth of a new child, put in place measures to help women with children into work, improve access to pre-school education for children aged three and younger, promote healthy living, active ageing, and an improved quality of life for the elderly, and encourage physical exercise and sport.
I have no doubt that the proposals and initiatives developed over the course of the Forum will help it to make a significant contribution to the development of social policy in Russia, aimed at securing better living standards for all of its citizens.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all Forum participants and guests a constructive dialogue, fruitful endeavours, success in your professional lives, good health, and all the very best.
Welcome address by Maxim Topilin (Russian)
